“If you want to change the world, go home and love your family.”
~Mother Teresa
Are you looking for some encouragement and accountability as you build your home as a homeschool mom? Then I have just the challenge for you! The free 2022 Lifegiving Home Challenge!
This year I am joining a group of Christian women who are committed to intentionally creating a life-giving home for their families.
As a homeschool mom, I am committing to focus on building my home. I have always wanted to be incredibly intentional about the atmosphere of our home. But this year I am choosing to walk in community with other women who want the same thing for their homes!
Not “Just Another Thing”
I DO NOT have time or the margin in life to add one. more. thing. to my life!
I am a wife. I am a homeschooling mom. We are still trying to get settled and find community since moving to the area almost two years ago. Major parts of my home are missing (read on for which parts). My husband’s work schedule changes every six months, and we’re halfway through adjusting now that we’re about three months in.
I do not have the brain-space or life-space to add more commitments to my “To Do” list.
However, I DO need community! I DO need fellowship and encouragement, I need support and help from like-minded women who desire to intentionally focus on building their homes to be the place the fosters growth and love and joy. I need to surround myself with a community of women committed to building their homes.
And my home can’t wait. I can’t wait until it’s EASY and CONVENIENT to focus on intentionally creating a life-giving home. I can’t wait until I’m ready. I believe ready is as elusive as tomorrow.
So I’m choosing to participate in this challenge. I am choosing to see this challenge as the over-arching theme for the coming year. As I declutter our home, meal plan, clean, organize, teach, mother, love and live out this year, I’m choosing to use this challenge to help me stay focused on my home. Building up my family.
What is the 2022 Lifegiving Home Challenge?
The 2022 Lifegiving Home Challenge is a challenge that is created for homemakers dedicated to changing our world, and starting with our homes!
There is a Facebook group you can join, and an email list to receive a newsletter twice a month, to support you and encourage you, to help you stay up to date on what we are learning and how we are implementing the lessons we are learning into our lives in a rubber-meets-the-road sort of practical way.
“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up.”
Ecclesiastes 3:1-3
The 2022 Lifegiving Home Challenge is based on the book The Life Giving Home: Creating a Place of Belonging & Becoming by Sally and Sarah Clarkson.
This book has been such an encouragement to my heart in the past and I am excited to re-read it and dive into intentionally focusing on my home in the coming year.
Why Now?
I have been thinking about intentionally building my home A LOT recently as we just (mostly over Christmas Break) LITERALLY tore down the kitchen, laundry room, and entryway of our home. (A tree fell on our home in 2020 and we have been planning this re-build since then, but that’s a LONG story for another day.)
When I was first invited to join this challenge I was really excited about the idea. But then, I immediately began to think about all of the other responsibilities and commitments I have. So I almost said no.
However, I realized that now IS the time, I need to keep my focus on nurturing my family, and building up my household NOW, TODAY!
How?
As a Christian, I believe that life is from Jesus Christ Who is Life. So creating a life-giving home is obviously not something I can manufacture. No amount of baskets and candles, throw pillows and read-alouds, rules and rituals can create a home that truly is a place of joy, kindness and love. I believe that love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, all of these are fruit of the Holy Spirit.
I believe that God doing His work in my life will begin to work the beauty of creating a place that shouts to the lonely, the broken, the tired and weary… PEACE. I pray He will make our home a place that my children are tended like young plants in a greenhouse. A place where the Lord is honored and His Word is lived out and His redemptive work is seen in our hearts an lives.
